A (PSA) Pressure Sensitive Tape is an adhesive tape which forms a bond when pressure is applied to it and holds well. PSA Tapes are perfect in a variety of different environments, depending on the adhesive formulation. No other material such as: water, UV or heat is required to form the bond.
Pressure sensitive adhesives can be applied to both sides of a substrate, to make a double sided PSA tape. Alternatively it can be applied to one side of a substrate to make a single sided pressure sensitive tape.
The adhesive can also be coated directly onto a release paper to form what is called a transfer tape. This can then be applied to any substrate with pressure, and this in turn makes that substrate self-adhesive once the release paper is then removed. Pressure sensitive tapes are formulated using one of the following adhesive types:
Each of these formulations give different performance characteristics, and as a rule of thumb rubber adhesives tend to be used for more short term internal applications, whilst acrylics tend to be used for more long term external applications. This is due to their ability to withstand environments where UV light is present along with variations in temperature.
This type of adhesive is ideal for a multitude of different applications for the following reasons.
The vast majority of our products are pressure-sensitive adhesives; but, we do also stock other variations as well.
Pressure sensitive adhesives are a type of adhesive that bonds to a surface when pressure is applied, without the need for heat or solvents. They are commonly used in a wide range of applications, including labeling, packaging, and product assembly to name but a few.
Pressure sensitive adhesives work by forming a bond with a surface when pressure is applied. They are activated by pressure and not by heat or solvents, making them easy to use and apply.
Yes, some types of pressure sensitive adhesives are formulated for outdoor use and are weather-resistant. It is important to choose a pressure sensitive adhesive that is suitable for the conditions in which it will be used.
Yes, some types of pressure sensitive adhesives are formulated to be waterproof, making them suitable for use in outdoor and marine applications. It is important to choose a pressure sensitive adhesive that is specifically designed for the intended application.
Pressure sensitive adhesives can be difficult to remove once they have bonded to the surface, and may cause damage if not done carefully. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product you are using, and to use a solvent or specialized adhesive remover if necessary.
Pressure sensitive adhesives can be used with a wide range of materials, including paper, plastic, metal, and fabric. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product you are using, and to choose an adhesive that is compatible with the materials you will be bonding.
The lifespan of a pressure sensitive adhesive depends on several factors, including the type of adhesive, the conditions in which it is used, and the materials being bonded. Some pressure sensitive adhesives have a long lifespan, while others may lose their adhesive properties over time.
Yes, some types of pressure sensitive adhesives are formulated for use in high-temperature applications, making them suitable for use in environments with elevated temperatures. It is important to choose a pressure sensitive adhesive that is specifically designed for the intended application.
