PSA4000E is a 25 metre continuous roll of 38mm self adhesive hook and loop tape, supplied in individual rolls of hook or loop in both black and white. Our stock adhesive is rubber-based, but acrylic adhesive can be made available on request, as can other colours.
Quick and Straightforward to Fit
Even at this wider width, application is fast and tool-free. Peel the siliconised release paper to expose the rubber adhesive, align the tape on your surface, and press down firmly across the full 38mm width. The adhesive bonds on contact and develops its maximum holding strength over the following 24 hours — no clamping, no drying time for glue, and no pilot holes to drill.
Size and Roll Information
- Width: 38mm / 1.5 inches / 3.8cm
- Length: 25 metres per roll
- Supplied as: Individual rolls of hook (male) or loop (female) — or order both together
- Colours: Black or white as standard (other colours available on request)
- Adhesive: Rubber-based pressure sensitive (acrylic available on request)
The 38mm width is where our range steps into genuinely heavy-duty territory. At one and a half inches across, this tape provides over 50% more adhesive contact area per metre than our 25mm roll — a substantial increase in bonding surface that translates directly into a stronger, more load-bearing hold. It’s the tape of choice for trade professionals and industrial users who need reliable performance under sustained weight or frequent handling.
What Is 38mm Hook & Loop Tape Best For?
The 38mm width is engineered for applications where narrower tapes either can’t support the load or don’t provide enough edge-to-edge coverage for a secure bond. It’s popular across the trades, in exhibition build, and in manufacturing and maintenance environments where robust, repeatable fastening is a daily requirement.
uPVC and glazing applications:
- uPVC window panels and trims — the most common trade application for 38mm tape. Attach secondary glazing panels, draught-proofing strips, and decorative trims to uPVC window frames. The 38mm width sits comfortably within the frame profile and provides enough grip to hold rigid panels firmly in place — even on the low surface energy of uPVC, which narrower tapes can struggle with.
- Conservatory blinds and shading — mount roller blinds, pleated blinds, and solar reflective panels inside conservatory roof sections and side frames without drilling into the uPVC structure.
- Secondary glazing film frames — secure magnetic or rigid secondary glazing frames to window surrounds for thermal insulation. The 38mm tape distributes the load across a wider strip, reducing the chance of the frame peeling away at the edges over time.
Exhibition and large-format display:
- Full-size exhibition panels — attach large printed panels, fabric wraps, and graphic boards to shell scheme walls and modular exhibition systems. The 38mm width provides a confident hold for panels that are too heavy or too large for 25mm tape to support reliably.
- Stage and event backdrops — mount fabric backdrops, branded banners, and scenic elements to frames and walls for conferences, product launches, and corporate events. The wider tape gives installers confidence that panels will stay put throughout a multi-day event.
- Retail fit-out and visual merchandising — secure wall-mounted displays, promotional boards, and category signage in retail environments. The tape holds firmly through daily trading but removes cleanly when layouts are refreshed.
Industrial and automotive:
- Equipment enclosures and access panels — fasten covers, guards, and inspection hatches on machinery, electrical cabinets, and service enclosures. The 38mm width handles the weight of metal and rigid plastic panels, and the hook and loop fastening allows maintenance engineers to remove and refit covers quickly during servicing.
- Automotive interior trim — mount dashboard accessories, door panel trims, parcel shelf linings, and boot organisers inside vehicles. The tape adheres well to the rigid plastics and painted metals found in automotive interiors, and withstands the vibration and temperature changes of a vehicle environment.
- Cable trunking and containment — secure lightweight cable trunking, conduit covers, and cable management channels to walls and workbenches in workshops, server rooms, and production facilities.
Heavy-duty domestic:
- Large mirrors and artwork — mount medium-weight framed mirrors and artwork to walls. The 38mm width provides enough surface contact to support items that are too heavy for a 20mm or 25mm strip, while still allowing repositioning without wall damage.
- Headboards — attach padded or upholstered headboards to bedroom walls without brackets or screws. Apply horizontal strips across the back of the headboard and matching strips to the wall at the corresponding height.
- Kitchen and utility storage — mount tool racks, utensil holders, and storage organisers to tiled or painted walls in kitchens, utility rooms, and garages.
Wide Enough to Distribute Load Evenly
One of the practical advantages of stepping up to 38mm is load distribution. When a fastening is under sustained weight — such as a wall-mounted panel or a heavy display board — narrower tapes concentrate the stress along a thin line, making edge peel more likely. The 38mm width spreads the load across a broader surface, significantly reducing the risk of peeling and giving the bond a longer working life under heavier loads.
Water-Resistant for Indoor and Outdoor Use
This tape performs reliably in damp and humid conditions, making it suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, covered outdoor areas, conservatories, and vehicle interiors. The hook and loop material is machine washable, so it can be used on items that are periodically laundered or wiped down.
Rubber-Based Pressure Sensitive Adhesive
The rubber adhesive is formulated for high initial tack and strong sustained adhesion. It bonds securely to a broad range of smooth, clean surfaces, including:
- Metal (mild steel, aluminium, stainless steel)
- Glass
- Rigid plastics (ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate)
- Painted walls, plasterboard, and MDF
- PVC and uPVC
- Low energy surfaces such as polypropylene, polystyrene, acetyl, PVA (polyvinyl acetate), and Teflon
The adhesive’s reliable performance on uPVC and low energy plastics is a key reason the 38mm tape is so widely used in glazing, conservatory, and automotive applications — substrates that can be difficult for weaker adhesives to grip.
For the most demanding environments — extreme temperatures, prolonged UV exposure, or permanent outdoor installations — we can supply 38mm tape with an acrylic adhesive on request. Acrylic offers superior long-term durability and environmental resistance compared with rubber. Contact us for availability and pricing.
Consistent Grip Over Thousands of Cycles
PSA4000E is built for applications where the fastening is opened and closed regularly — equipment panels, access covers, exhibition graphics that are mounted and stripped between shows. The hook and loop maintains effective grip strength through repeated use, with only a gradual and minimal decline over many hundreds of cycles. For most trade and industrial applications, the tape will outlast the item it’s attached to.
Application Instructions
- Clean the surface thoroughly. For industrial and automotive surfaces, degrease with isopropyl alcohol or a suitable solvent and allow to dry completely. On uPVC frames, remove any silicone residue, dust, and condensation — these are common causes of premature bond failure on window installations.
- Peel the release paper from the adhesive backing.
- Align the tape carefully — at 38mm wide, repositioning after the adhesive makes contact is more difficult than with narrower tapes.
- Press firmly along the full length, applying strong, even pressure across the entire width. Use a roller or the flat edge of a plastic scraper for the most consistent contact, especially on textured or slightly uneven surfaces.
- Wait a full 24 hours before loading. For heavy panels or items subject to vibration (such as vehicle trim), allow 48 hours if possible for maximum bond strength.
For comprehensive application guidance, see our Surface Preparation and Application Guide.
Please note: This tape is not recommended for fabrics, flexible vinyl, or underwater use. Prolonged direct sunlight may reduce adhesive performance — for permanent outdoor applications, ask us about acrylic adhesive options.

Choosing Between 38mm and Other Widths
The 38mm tape occupies a specific position in the range — it’s the first width that’s genuinely suited to trade and industrial work, while still being practical enough for heavy-duty domestic applications.
If your items are lighter and a narrower tape would work, our 25mm and 30mm rolls are more economical options. For the heaviest loads — full-size exhibition walls, acoustic panels, large industrial enclosures — our 50mm and 100mm tapes provide the maximum bonding surface available in our range.
For individual fastening points on panels and covers, our 22mm self adhesive coins can be used alongside or instead of continuous tape strips — particularly useful for bath panels and access hatches where you only need fastening at specific corners or midpoints.
